This index provides links to online church records at the Maryland Archives and the LDS Family Search site. Some notes and hints for accessing each type:
Maryland Archives
There are many church records in the Archives' "Special Collections". The following list includes those which provide online digitized copies and is compiled from a search of all 1164 items in the Archives Special Collection list of Maryland churches. I continually watch for new ones placed online.
These are indicated by an MSA number like "M247" in the 3rd column, which is the film number. The 4th column gives the size in MegaBytes if it is a PDF file to download or indicates "e-book" if it displays pages one at a time. See Hint below to access the e-books. (The PDF files are all very large, so it's best to right-click on a link, download and save the file, and then open it later for viewing, using a real PDF viewer rather than a browser's built-in viewer.) In either case, you have to find the proper page for particular information, since these are generally many 100's of pages (images) long. Numbers in [square brackets] in the list of contents (the "Full list" buttons below) are image numbers within the PDF file or web page.
Hint: For the e-book web pages that display the data one page at a time, you have to get to the right page by entering the page number. There is an error on the Archives website, so if you enter a page number in the "Jump to page" field provided, it often returns a "Service Temporarily Unavailable" response or just goes to never-never land. To avoid this, instead of using the "Jump to page" field, edit the page number in the browser address bar instead (e.g. change "-0001" to "-0250").
Family Search
You must sign in to access these. Registration is free.
These entries are indicated below by the "FS Film #" in the 3rd column. Clicking on this number goes to the begin page for this item. However, due to Family Search's strange software, it has to step though all pages up to the one you want, downloading a thumbnail for each, so it may take some time.
As an alternative, note the Film Number, Item Number, and Image Number. The easiest way is to click on the desired "Full List" button in the 5th column which has all this information which opens in a new window. Go to FamilySearch.org, select "Film/Fiche Number" and enter the Film Number. Select the item desired then scroll down and click on the little camera icon (log in if needed). This takes you to the film. Enter the image number.
Family Search has a searchable index of 27,664 images for Maryland Church Records 1668-1995. Unfortunately, it does not include all Baltimore records and some of those included are not even in Maryland. Images are not avialable.
